Danyal Alibhay Premjee is this year's valedictorian for the W.H. Croxford High School.

Alibhay Premjee explained how he found out.

"I didn't get to see the email before I got congratulated by some of the other applicants. So that was pretty fun. But it was really exciting. I was definitely a little nervous because now I had to give a speech to inspire my class."

According to him, it was quite a process with multiple rounds to try and become valedictorian. In the first round of applications, there was a form that you had to fill out with two letters of recommendation, one from a teacher and one from a community leader and other certain requirements such as high academic standing.

"Out of all of the applicants in the form, they chose four to give a two-minute speech to a round of judges. Then after that, they chose the valedictorian."

Alibhay Premjee spent a lot of time volunteering at the Airdrie Food Bank so that is where one letter of recommendation is from.

"I've learned so much from my time there, that I thought that would be a great representation of what I've done to try to help out the community."

He mentioned he has always liked helping people and that he thinks hunger is a very big problem that not many people try to solve, or at least don't address these days.

Alibhay Premjee also has done his part when it comes to being a part of the community at W.H. Croxford.

"I was part of the graduation committee to help out plan prom and graduation this year. I have also helped out some of my friends who are in leadership to help plan out activities or give them ideas on what the student body would enjoy most."

Now leaving Croxford, Alibhay Premjee talked about the highlights he has had over the years.

"Definitely the connections I've made with the people here, it's been very fun in a very enjoyable learning environment for the most part. It was definitely very nice to see all my friends grow up, and how much we've grown as people."

Alibhay Premjee hopes his classmates will be the best version of themselves in the future and don't forget to appreciate what they have because you never know when it might be gone.

He will be attending the University of Calgary for an undergrad in chemistry.
