Last weekend, hundreds of students from W.H. Croxford High School couldn’t stop moving for mental health awareness.

The first ever 24 Hour Movement For Mental Health took place at the school from March 23rd to 24th.

Grade 12 student Kate Metcalfe was on the leadership team for the event and says students participated in different teams with one objective through the day.

“One person from each team had to be moving at any given time during that 24 hours. We had Goodlife Fitness and a few other local gyms come in and ”

Metcalfe says that students learned a variety of ways to move during the 24 hours including Yoga, Zumba and Swing Classes.

“By the last four to five hours, students were insanely exhausted but they were still so committed to finishing off. The students were very excited and motivated to complete this challenge.”

Each student team had to raise funds to participate and Metcalfe is very pleased with how much has been raised so far.

“In total, we raised $28,780, is what it’s at right now. That’s going to the Thumbs Up Foundation and PMAST (Peer Mediation and Skills Training).”

With the first Movement for Mental Health a success, Metcalfe says they’re already moving towards future events.

“We have a group of students who are already planning on running it next year. We had an insane amount of leadership students, I think there was probably 40 of us working on this event for the last six months, which will continue now for the next, however long. Hopefully, it happens every year for the rest of Croxford’s life.”
