W.H. Croxford's Football team took on the Airdrie Special Olympics in a friendly game of softball on Wednesday, June 22.

The two teams took the opportunity to square off in the name of sport and fun, bringing the W.H. Croxford players out of their element.

Croxford Coach Roy Lewis said that the game was a great experience for his boys.

"It's the opportunity for our guys to have some competition against a different team. We're used to playing 55 yards...this is a different experience, it allows them to get outside of their comfort zone and give a little bit back to the community."

Although the game was all in fun, both teams let their competitive edge show, making it a nail biter right to the end.

Lewis said the sportsmanship from both teams was strong, with each team cheering the other one on.

"I think we could see it in the last hour how everybody kind of bonded together, everybody is still cheering each other on, cheering the opposition on - really good sportsmanship."

Airdrie Special Olympics aims to bring their athletes together with various members of the community, and will continue to do so through the power of sport.
