At their meeting on Monday, March 5, Airdrie City Council gave the okay to spend the funds necessary to complete the 2012 Roadworks Program.

A number of projects totalling $1,806,100 will be funding by a varity of Provincial Grants:

  • Arterial Rehabilitation
    • 8th Street toplift – Bayside Gate to Railway Avenue - $964,200
  • Collector Rehabilitation
    • Service Road – Highway 2 to East Lake Crescent - $39,400
  • Local Rehabilitation
    • No projects this year
  • Annexed Roads (cost recovery to Rocky View County – expenditure contingent on effective date of annexation)
    • Range Road 292 - $802,500

A rehabilitation project budget is developed from an engineering cost estimate that considers road surface condition, concrete repairs, streetlights and landscaping.

An additional project  will be funded out of reserves and by debenture:

  • 24th Street – Yankee Valley Boulevard to Sagewood Drive (upgrade to 2-lane undivided)
    • $7,811,000 ($3,905,500 Reserves / $3,905,500 Debentures). In 2011, $589,000 (100% Reserves) in funding was approved to advance the road design. Total project funding, therefore, is $8,400,000.

Debenture payments are made from reserves generated by levies and acreage assessment. Costs to service debt are factored into levies.

The new construction project budget is developed from an engineering cost estimate that considers earthworks, curb and median concrete, road base, pavement, landscaping, streetlights, signage, and drainage infrastructure.

The estimated total in grants, reserves and debentures for all projects is $9,617,100.
