You might need to add a little extra time for your commute as multiple projects are causing delays on or near the QEII north of Airdrie.

According to 511 Alberta, one of the closures taking place by Carstairs is for bridge rehabilitation work.

"Highway 581 over the QEII, just east of Carstairs. Expect one-lane alternating traffic with speed reduced to 50km/h in the area."

Construction started on August 14 and is expected to last until October 13.

Farther north on the QEII between Olds and Bowden, we are seeing the removal of an existing bridge combined with paving work in the area.

"Lane closures and ramp closures will be in effect with speed reduced to 50 km/h. There may be some minor detours in effect to accommodate work in the area."

This project started on August 1 and will last until September 11.

Here are some of the closures we will see in Airdrie along the QEII.

  • Wednesday, September 6, 9 p.m.- until 6 a.m. the following day: The QEII Northbound lanes in the vicinity of the 40th Avenue Construction overpass will have an outside single-lane closure. This closure is also to facilitate paving the northbound ramp tie-in to QEII
  • Thursday, September 7, for one week until September 14: Gateway Road will be closed to facilitate a utility tie-in.

By October 16, the 40th Avenue Overpass should be open to traffic flow.
