He's gone from having served two terms as councillor for the Town of Cochrane to its Mayor for the next four years.

34-year Cochrane resident Ivan Brooker, in a race for the mayor's chair that placed him against fellow councillor Joann Churchill and newcomer David Smith, came out on top with 1,856 votes when the unofficial results were known, October 21.

Joann Churchill brought in 1,432 votes while David Smith trailed with 1,232.

Brooker and his family couldn't contain their excitement at the Cochrane RancheHouse when the announcement was made.

Brooker said he did everything he could to connect with residents during his campaign which seemed to be a formula for success.

Brooker says he'll simply take a short rest to soak it all in before getting down to the business of running the town.

Results will become official on Friday, October 25.
