Donated jeans could mean big money for one student and for her school (PHOTO - Leah Murray)

A Cochrane High school student is collecting jeans to help teens in need, in hopes of landing a scholarship. The Teens for Jeans initiative collects gently used jeans and donates them to youth shelters to help clothe homeless youth.

This is the first year the school will participate in the fund raiser, which has collected 3.5 million jeans for youth since it started in 2006.

Student Bree Baskin who is part of the school's leadership group, has set some lofty collection goals

The scholarship isn't guaranteed, by participating her name will be entered into a draw for a chance to win the $4000. Baskin says she wants to take nursing and the money would help to cover a portion of her tuition.

But it's not just Baskin who can benefit from the Teens for Jeans drive, if Cochrane donates the most jeans in the country, the school will receive a learning grant of $5,000. And if they donate more than any other Canadian or American High school, Cochrane High could receive a $10,000 learning grant.

Anyone with jeans that they no longer need or are willing to donate can drop them off at the Cochrane High school's office during school hours until Feb, 13.
