As the start of their basketball season approaches, the Bert Church Chargers senior boys team faces an uphill battle.

Going into the season, three of the Charger's five returning players will be benched with injuries, but head coach Mike Sera is keeping a positive outlook.

"As a senior team we return a good core," said Sera, "But we have some hiccups here to start the season."

Despite the injuries, Sera say the team will not be complacent on the court.

"You never expect to start a season with more kids injured than you do healthy, so you're kinda behind the eight ball. But the good thing is that those who are healthy aren't using that as an excuse."

As for this season, Sera says his expectation for the team is continual improvement.

"Every practice, every game, we want to see that we're executing what we need to on the floor, and every game, every practice we're progressing and getting better."

The Chargers junior and senior boys teams start their season on December 13 against the Cochrane Cobras, with the junior and senior girls playing the Cobras the following night.
