Several recall warnings have been issued this week for beef products contaminated with E. coli.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the majority of the recalls are for products sold to and used in retail, hotels, restaurants and institutions across the country.

The recall was first issued for products from St. Ann's Foods Inc./Ryding-Regency Meat Packers Ltd. then expanded to products from The Beef Boutique Ltd. The recall has been expanded again to include several different brands.

For residents here in Alberta the CFIA says consumers who buy meal kits which get delivered right to your door, should double-check the products they’ve been given.

The recall includes lean ground beef from HelloFresh in the 250-gram and 500-gram sizes which were delivered to customers in Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario.

Check to see if you have the recalled products in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with E. coli may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea. In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis or live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

The recall was triggered by the CFIA's inspection activities. The organization is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. The CFIA says it is verifying that industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace.
