Manitoba weekly auction mart report showed that last week feeder steer prices rose, ranging from an average of $450.88 per cwt for the 401 to 500-pound weights to $319.58 per cwt for the 801 to 900-pound category.  The biggest drop of $9.17 per cwt came in the 901+ weight category dropping to an average of $275.33 per cwt, the biggest increase of $16.18 per cwt was in the 401-500 pound category for an average of $450.88.

Heifer prices ranged from an average price of $383.58 per cwt for the 401 to 500-pound range to an average of $253.75 per cwt for the 901+ category. The biggest increase was seen in the 701-800 range with $14.68 per cwt to an average of $313.58, while the biggest drop of $3.33 was reported in the 501 to 600-pound range.

Saskatchewan steer prices ranged from an average of $469.67 per cwt for the 400 to 500-pound weights down to $361.29 per cwt for the 700 to 800-pound category. The biggest price increase $20.09 was in the 600 to 700-pound feeder steers, with the largest decrease sitting at $9.71 for the 700-800 category, with no other no available prices.

The sole comparison to last week's prices in the feeder heifer category showed an improvement in price. Average available prices ranged from $349.83 per cwt for the 600 to 700-pound weight category, down to $298.25 per cwt in the 800+ pound category, which improved by $4.58 compared to last week.

The Canfax price for Alberta fed steers for the week ending May 17 was $260.11 per cwt, a price increase of $2.13 per cwt over the previous week. 

Looking at slaughter prices in Manitoba D1-D2 cows averaged $171.17 per cwt, D3's averaged $161.81 per cwt, and slaughter bull prices ended the week with an average price of $205.13

Alberta D2 cows were up $3.52 per cwt for an average of $184.77 per cwt, while D3's averaged of $168.77 per cwt.
