The Blue Team threw down the gauntlet, the Red Teams responds with fire!

The City of Airdrie’s Municipal Enforcement (AME) has teamed up with the RCMP to challenge the Airdrie Fire Department and Alberta Health Services EMS in a friendly competition dubbed Sirens Lip Sync Showdown: Battle for Airdrie.

And so it Begins.....

Over the next three months the two teams will challenge each other by supporting great causes in the Airdrie community. The winner of the challenge will choose a song for the remaining team to lip sync to in a music video.

“We just think this is a great way to not only get out and engage the community, but to support the needs of residents as well,” says AME Team Lead, Lynn MacKenzie. “All while having a bit of fun and making it exciting for the people of Airdrie.”

Each month there will be a new competition supporting a different cause. For November, the two teams will be collecting toys as part of Airdrie Lioness Hamper Foundation’s Christmas Hamper program. A toy donation will gain you free entry into a hockey game between the two teams at Ron Ebbesen Arena on the night of Nov. 24.

Throughout the month of December, the teams will challenge each other to see who can collect the most food donations for the Airdrie Food Bank. There will be opportunities to donate when the CP Holiday Train makes its stop here and during the Santa Claus Parade.

During the final month of the Showdown, the two teams will be challenging the community to support Canadian Blood Services by donating blood during two clinics being held in Airdrie as part of their Sirens for Life campaign.

Details on how people can support each team will be communicated via social media and various announcements throughout the Showdown months. Bins for collecting donations will be set up in various locations throughout the City. Red Team has them at the Fire Halls and Blue Team at the Detachments. You can find them at some other locations as well.

This month a few events are being set up:

Nov 10 - Walmart entrance with Lioness Club Starting at 10am
Nov 17 - Charity Checkstop Superstore Parking Lot 10-2
Nov 24 - Charity Hockey Game vs Fire/EMS at Ebbeson arena 7-9:30

We got a couple of the Red Team into the studio to battle back at this weeks earlier video. They even brought blue soothers, they said they stole them from the Blue Teams Hockey Dressing room... I guess it's what they use for mouth guards.

Travis Smutt Airdrie fire and Wayne Walchuk from Airdrie AHS EMS. Check them out! We will do another video next month and in January for the final battles and let you know who, in our community will benefit and how you can get out to support them! They have Blood Drives and much more planned in the coming months.
