The Calgary Kangaroos are preparing for the Stampede Cup on Saturday, July 9th.

Aussie rules football teams from Edmonton and Canmore, will head to Calgary and take on two local squads for the cup.

"Most of the times we are on the winning end, but it really depends on the club they bring down and the club we field." said Airdrie's Kevin Zucht of the Calgary Kangaroos.

Australian Football has been the biggest sport down under for over 150 years, and it'sgaining popularity in Alberta.

For Zucht, the sport is a great opportunity to stay in shape.

"If you're interested in lots of physical activity, depending on the position you are on the field, there could be quite a bit of running, so you'll get your fitness up and youll drop a few extra pounds if that's your goal."

The Kangaroos head three teams in Calgary, and are always looking for more players.

They practice Monday and Wednesday, with games every Saturday afternoon.
