The Bow Valley Bobcats boy's soccer team had a busy week playing Rockyview School's Semi Finals on Thursday, June 2, then competing in South Central Zone Championships on June 3,4 in Canmore.

On Thursday, the team triumphed over the Bert Church Chargers 6-0 in the RVS Semi-finals, but lost 3-2 against the George McDougall Mustangs.

In the final game on Tuesday, June 7, the boys battled it out on the field against Bert Church for the win, taking home the bronze with a final score of 3-1.

The Bobcats also had a successful weekend bringing home a silver medal in the South Central Zone Championships; Coach Jez Rodgers said it still wasn't the outcome they were looking for.

"It wasn't gold, but you learn more from a loss than you do a win. Everybody played the part in that, it was a good squad effort, everybody stepped up."

Rodgers shared that the weekend was a struggle for the team at some points, the heat and fatigue affected the players greatly.

"That was a tough one with the weather, after Thursday night they were pretty tired. We started against Canmore, the zone champions last year, we managed to go 2-0 at half time, and then the second half, we were done. Then battled, and we managed to get away with a 2-1 win."

The Bobcats were victorious the next two games against Strathmore and Springbank, allowing the team to move on to play Brooks in the SC Zone Semi Finals on Saturday, winning 6-0.

Rodgers said by the gold medal game the team was exhausted.

"You could see the fatigue starting to set in, with the soccer they played the days before, it really killed them, unfortunately the final ended up being one game too far for them."

The game was decided in overtime, the Bobcats falling 3-2.

Rodgers is most proud of the great sportsmanship and behaviour shown throughout the weekend.

"No complaints, can only credit the guys with fantastic effort throughout the whole weekend. Obviously they were dissappointed not to win, but when the presentation came they stood heads high, they are proud of what they achieved, they're a fantastic bunch of kids, they work hard."

Rodgers added that all the players stood in line and applauded the winners right to the last man.
