After a tough loss in Carstairs on Saturday, the Airdrie CFR Bisons were hoping for a big win yesterday (December 17th).

The Bisons played their final regular season game of 2017 at home as they faced the Sherwood Park J. Ennis Kings.

Airdrie drew the first goal 14 minutes into the game thanks to a shot from Joel Shoemaker. Tyrel Bauer made it 2-0 in the final minute of the first period before Jake Petrie added the third goal less than five minutes into the second period.

That was enough to chase Kings goalie and Brandon Wheat Kings prospect Ethan Kruger from the net after allowing 3 goals on 18 shots.

The change in netminders gave a spark to the Kings as they scored shorthanded just a few minutes later to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The game was steady until the final two minutes, when two penalties put the Bisons at a 2 man disadvantage.

The Kings and Davis DiSciglio took advantage, scoring with less than a minute left to come to within a goal of tying. That's as close as they would get, as the Bisons defense and goalie Braeden Mitchell shut the door to secure their 3-2 victory.

Mitchell would make 40 saves in the win while Jacob Cathcart had two assists.

The Bisons still have plenty of hockey to play before 2018 hits as they prepare for this year's Mac's Midget Hockey Tournament in Calgary.

Airdrie will host an exhibition game on December 22nd against the Hungarian U18 team.

The Bisons will then take their talents to Cochrane to face the U17 team from Belarus on December 23rd.
