COVID-19 restrictions are preventing loved ones in long term care or assisted living facilities from being able to have visits with friends and family.

Some people have resorted to window visits where they talk on the phone through a window or through an open window.

Others have family farther away and don’t get those opportunities.

The staff at the Bethany Care Centre in Airdrie have launched a project to help bring smiles to the faces of all the residents.

They are asking the people of Airdrie to create cards for the residents. Draw some pictures, write some kind messages and drop them off for the residents.

“We’ve put a call-out for families and the general community to send some love to our seniors,” said Shelley Rolfe “Our residents are truly missing the visitation from their family members.”

There’s a dropbox at the front door for the cards. Rolfe said all the cards will either get wiped down with sanitizing cloths or people will need to wash their hands before and after touching the cards.

“We will take these items and share them with residents or post them around the building,” she said.

Anyone who would like to make a card for the residents is asked to drop them off in the bin at the front door between Monday and Friday anytime between 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. at the Airdrie Bethany Care Centre (1736 1 Avenue NW).
