COVID-19 restrictions continue to be in place for seniors living facilities throughout the province. The virus has shown to have a more negative impact on older generations and restrictions are expected to continue for an unknown length of time.

That means seniors who call the assisted living facilities home haven’t been able to see their family in person since March.

In April Bethany Care Centre in Airdrie put out a call to the community for letters of support and encouragement for residents there. Site administrator Shelley Rolfe said the response was overwhelming.

“This community has been absolutely amazing! Airdrie is a very caring community and the seniors here at Bethany have been the recipients of hundreds of well-wishes,” Rolfe said.

The goal of the initiative was to bring some joy and smiles to residents in a time of great uncertainty. Rolfe said that mission has been accomplished.

“Many of the residents enjoy just sitting around the cards that have been posted, or the emails, and just reading through them.”

Many of the cards, notes, and letters have been posted on the walls around the centre to help brighten the walls and the spirits of the seniors.
