Airdrie's Zach Boychuk and Dana Tyrell at last year's Raise The Rinks Golf Classic.

The Airdrie Regional Recreation Enhancement Society (ARRES) will head back to the tee-boxes in order to help bring more ice to the city.

Woodside Golf Course will once again be the scene of the ARRES 'Raise the Rinks' Golf Classic, August 23rd. Last year's tournament brought in over $40,000 to the cause, which is expected to be beaten this year.

ARRES is a charitable organization established specifically to support the continued development of Genesis Place, including the much anticipated Phase Three, which will include two new NHL sized ice surfaces. Together with with Ice Users Alliance of Airdrie Minor Hockey, the Airdrie Skating Club and Airdrie Ringette, they'll be raising the community's $4 million portion of the $20 million cost to build the rinks.

The tournament is a great day out on the links, for the everyday or once and a while golfers, as the field is peppered with celebrities of all walks of life. Last year, former Airdrie Xtreme players Zach Boychuk and Dana Tyrell, Sportsnet's Roger Millions, and Olympian Eric Pothier played along side registrants. In fact, thanks to an over abundance of celebrities, there were 150 golfers for the 144 spots, yet everyone had a chance to play.

"Everyone from last year has re-confirmed," says ARRES Chair Jack Lumley.

First swings will talk place with a shotgun start at 1:30pm, and the tournament will have a dinner to follow around 7pm, which is included in the entry fee.

"We just opened up registration, so I honestly haven't had a recient look at it," claims Lumley. "We've got a pretty exciting nymber of draws for early registration this time through. We do expect to have fairly significant numbers fairly early on in the process this time."

Early bird registrants will be entered to win one of three prizes: Two Taylor Made RBZ Drivers, and one hour and a half ice time on the new surfaces from Genesis Place. Deadline to get in on one of those prizes is July 24.
