Elementary school track and field athletes came to Airdrie on Friday June 10th for the Koinonia Schools Track Day.

Four schools including Airdrie Koinonia Christian School took part in the day's activities at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park.

AKCS was joined by Red Deer and Olds Koinonia as well as Living Truth School from Mirror, AB.

Vice Principal from AKCS, John Greene says a lot of events took over the park.

"The high jump, the long jump, the track races, ball throw. We've got chariot races and sack races and obstacle courses and a shuttle run...we've got a lot of things."

Despite a few ominous clouds in the sky, the weather held up for most of the events and the hundreds of participants were all excited.

Greene says that it was both a challenging but fun experience hosting this event.

"It does take a lot of work to put it all together...probably 40 to 50 hours along with a few volunteers to make it all work. Lots of little adjustments back and forth."

The students participating ranged from Grades 1 to 6 and didn't mind having the Friday off to enjoy a little track and field with their friends.
