Former Airdrie resident and George McDougall alumni Ben Saxton is wowing crowds at the summer games.

Saxton is leading Canada's gold medal charge alongside partner Chaim Schalk in Men's Beach Volleyball.

"I'm quite proud of what he's done. He's had to do a lot of stuff on his own, especially at the upper level, cause there's not really a system in place, at least not for Western Canadians,"said Don Saxton, Ben's Father.

After dropping their opening match to the Latvians, the pair shocked the world with an upset win over the hometown Brazilians.

Saxton grew up just outside of Airdrie, and attended George McDougall, playing on their volleyball team.

The 27-year-old has been knocking on the door for the games for awhile, and now has a chance to make his dreams come true.

The Alberta boys will take on the Cubans next on Thursday, August 11th.
