Although 2023 was a milestone for the city's growth, this year's predictions are forecasting that the city's population will continue to experience growth at approximately 5 per cent in comparison to the previous year.
The City's predictions estimate that the 2024 population will reach 84,752. In just four years, in 2028, Airdrie's population may grow to over 100,000.
However, the city has noted in its predictions that the city's administration creates population forecasts biannually in April and September each year. Hence, the estimates may change.
Although the city-wide census won't begin until April 1, the City is already looking for census takers. Residents are encouraged to participate in the census as the data helps the municipality plan for future transportation networks, locations of schools, parks, utilities and fire protection facilities.
In 2023, the census showed that Airdrie is a young community, with the average age of residents at 33, while over a third of the population is under the age of 20.
Last year's census also pinpointed which Airdrie communities are still growing. These communities included:
- Chinook Gate/ Cobblestone Creek
- Cooper's Crossing
- Kingsview Market
- South Windsong
The 2023 city census recorded a population growth of 14.29 per cent in comparison to data in 2019. There were no city-wide censuses between 2020 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
