The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, put on a spectacular display last night as a result of recent solar flare activity.

The colours illuminated the sky above Airdrie and spread all across Alberta.

Many Airdronians saw and photographed the Northern Lights, and then shared them on social media. Here are a few photos:

There is a chance the Airdrie area will be able to see the lights once again tonight.

The Canadian Space Agency, recommends that for those wanting to see the Northern Lights, it's best to choose a location free of light pollution.
