Airdrie has plenty of athletes attending the 2024 Winter Games. This year, the games are taking place in Grand Prairie from February 16-19.

On Friday, all athletes will register for their sports before the opening ceremonies. Saturday and Sunday will be full of sports competitions before everything comes to an end on Sunday.

A wide range of 18 different sports will be played at this year's games including Fencing, Judo, Biathlon and Badminton.

According to the Alberta Winter Games, Airdrie has 36 athletes aged between 11-17 partaking in the events:

  • Lauren Flaman - Ringette
  • Aylssa Heisler - Ringette
  • Liam Hetherington - Judo
  • Eileigh Kinley - Judo
  • Emily Lau - Ringette
  • Chance Leadley - Volleyball
  • Kobe Lorne - Wrestling
  • Jacob Macdonald - Hockey
  • Raegan Mcknight - Ringette
  • Isla Nash - Ringette
  • Brennan Nikkel - Volleyball
  • Wesley Obery - Judo
  • Amelia Osborne - Archery
  • Isabelle Papp - Ringette
  • Emily Rodgers - Ringette
  • Hana Schoepp - Judo

 2,500 athletes, coaches, managers and technical officials will all be partaking in this year's event.

The 2026 winter games will be hosted by the M.D. of Bonnyville, the City of Cold Lake, the Town of Bonnyville, and the Village of Glendon.

The last time the Winter Games were held, was back in 2020 in Airdrie. Athletes in the region, took home 26 gold medals, 27 silvers and 21 bronze medals, for a total medal haul of 74 medals. Airdrie athletes won gold in five different sports, silver in five and bronze in four.
