The City of Airdrie has released its 2023 municipal census results and according to the census, Airdrie population sits at 80,649.

This represents a 14.29 per cent growth rate from the most recent municipal census, which was finished in 2019.

“I am thrilled to announce the results of the 2023 municipal census which reflects Airdrie’s remarkable growth and showcases the vibrant and thriving community we continue to build. Each resident counted represents the diversity and collective spirit that makes Airdrie special,” says Mayor Peter Brown. “With our continued growth, we are aware of both opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. As Airdrie continues to evolve, we remain committed to providing essential infrastructure, improving critical services and supporting economic development while advocating for the city to ensure every resident has access to quality education and health care opportunities to enhance their quality of life.”

Airdrie saw a growth of 2,534 new residences between April 2019 and the end of March 2023, for a total increase of 28,744 dwellings, or 9.67 per cent. This includes single-family and multi-family housing alternatives, with the most rapid growth occurring in the neighbourhoods of South Windsong, Canals, and Midtown.

Many Airdrie citizens submitted their census data online in 2023. Online completion was completed at a rate of 66.36 percent.

“Obtaining an accurate population count is crucial as it enables the City to create a meaningful demographic profile that assists the City in planning for future growth in areas such as transportation networks, locations of schools, parks and fire protection facilities and also helps to attract new business opportunities to Airdrie,” says Tammy Belsham, team leader of Legislative Services. “Despite facing many challenges, the City would like to extend its sincere thanks to all involved in the success of the 2023 municipal census.”

  • 2015: 58,690
  • 2016: 61,842
  • 2017: 64,922
  • 2018: 68,091
  • 2019: 70,564
  • 2023: 80,649

Due to COVID-19 a municipal census was not completed between 2020-2022.
