Statistics Canada has released its Crime Severity Index, weighted clearance rates, and police services. In the Alberta report, Airdrie has seen a steady decline in all the categories. 

In the report, each category goes back to 2017. The categories are Crime Severity Index, Violent Crime Severity Index, Non-violent Crime Severity Index, Weighted Clearance Rate, Violent Weighted Clearance Rate and Non-Violent Weighted Clearance Rate. (Note: all numbers based on survey results) 

The Crime Severity Index includes all Criminal Code violations including traffic, as well as drug violations and all Federal Statutes. 

Since 2017 Airdrie has seen a steady decline. 

Crime severity index: 

2017: 188.72 

2018: 176.15 

2019: 154.25 

2020: 137.65 

2021: 122.70 

The Violent Crime Severity Index includes all Incident-based Uniform Crime Reporting Survey (UCR2) violent violations. 

Since 2017 we have seen a rise in violent crime but a decrease since 2020. 

Violent crime severity index: 

2017: 63.85 

2018: 44.70 

2019: 73.87 

2020: 116.48 

2021: 83.72 

The Non-Violent Crime Severity Index includes all non-violent Criminal Code violations including traffic, as well as drug violations and all Federal Statutes.

The Police Reported Crime Severity Index (CSI), which assigns a higher "weight" to more serious offences than less serious offences, serves as the foundation for the weighted clearance rate. A bigger contribution to the overall weighted clearance rate value would be made by clearing homicides, robberies, or break-ins than by clearing small theft, mischief, or disturbing the peace.
