Don’t forget to mark your calendars, because the Airdrie Children's Festival is coming back.

The festival was brought together by a group of local Airdronians and parents to enrich the community's children with respect to learning opportunities for kids (outside of their everyday schooling) that would inspire them to reach for great things and encourage them to be curious and creative.

Board member for the Airdrie Children's Festival Society (ACFS), Tara Levick says that after a long break, the ACFS is excited to celebrate with families and friends alike.

“I'm super excited. I think COVID has been pretty tough on a lot of people and we're excited to bring back a festival that anyone and everyone can enjoy.”

Levick hopes to see the legacy of this event live on in Airdrie with more families travelling to come in and witness the community's efforts for more inclusivity.

The Airdrie Children's Social Society strives to “enrich the lives of children and Airdrie." The mission of the festival is to celebrate cultural differences by highlighting, educating, and providing opportunities to teach and share about multiculturalism within the community, region, and province.

Leading into the first year back, the festival is set for May 28th and 29th in Nose Creek Park. There will be activities designed to create curiosity, inspire creativity and remove fear. They hope to remove any barriers from a child's creativity. Levick says that the event will host four main components for children to learn and play.

"There is the children's village which is the fun zone, that's games and activities. Then there are the inspiration stations where we want to strive for those learning components, and then we have the entertainment stage, which we're excited to have Smilin` Rylan coming back as our main entertainment. Then we have the citywide workshop off of Nose Creek Park."

These hands-on, accelerated learning centers, hosted by businesses and organizations in the Airdrie region, allow kids the chance to see, feel and learn about stuff they might not otherwise get to experience in a normal school environment. The ACFS feels all children should be able to express themselves without any hesitation "so, you can come and spend all day there and literally not spend $1.”
