The fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Wednesday afternoon near Balzac has claimed the life of a 50-year-old Airdrie man.

According to police, the collision occurred at Highway 566 and Range Road 11.

"A motorcycle was travelling Westbound on Highway 566 when it passed a number of vehicles before colliding with another Westbound truck that was turning South at Range Road 11."

The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver and lone occupant of the truck did not sustain physical injuries.

Police believe that speed is believed to be a factor in this collision. A portion of Highway 566 was closed off for several hours on Wednesday before re-opening in the evening.
