On January 18, members of the Rural Airdrie RCMP detachment and Crime Reduction Unit responded to the Cross Iron Shopping district in relation to a theft of gasoline.

Officers were able to locate the suspect's vehicle and determine it had been stolen from a business in Calgary.

When a male and female exited a nearby store, officers were able to safely arrest them. The offenders were apprehended after stealing additional merchandise from the business. A search of the stolen vehicle turned up break-in tools, stolen license plates, and methamphetamine.

Once identified, police determined the female had an arrest warrant and was violating the conditions of a release order.

Maryann Smith, a resident of Cupar, Saskatchewan, was brought before a Justice of Peace and has been remanded into custody. Smith is scheduled to appear in Airdrie court on January 26.

She is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00
  • Shoplifting under $50000
  • Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • 5 x Fail to comply with release order

Kyle Vaughn, as a resident of Calgary, was brought before a Justice of Peace and released on a $3000 no-cash release order. Vaughn is scheduled to appear in Airdrie court on February 23.

He is charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00
  • Possession of the proceeds of crime under $5000
  • Shoplifting under $50000
  • Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • 6 x Fail to comply with release order
