The cowboys and cowgirls of the rodeo circuit are going to be in Airdrie soon for this year's 49th annual Airdrie Pro Rodeo.

The competition will include riders from around the world, as well as some strong local representation in the qualifying event.

With 492 competitors in this year's rodeo, the competition should prove to be fierce as some locals go up against one another in events.

Airdrie's own Jake Vold will be facing off against Cochrane local Denny Phipps in the bareback riding, while Sundre resident Wyatt Gleeson and Fabian Dueck, from Acme, go head to head on the bulls.

Tie-down roping brings in competitors from down south; many of them are from Texas, Utah, California, and Oregon.

Bull rider Darryn Bird came all the way from Australia to compete in this year's pro rodeo.

Ladies Barrel Racing doesn't disappoint with the competition brought in from the United States, as well as local representation.

Taylor Sheilds, from Cochrane, will be running against competition from outside the Rocky View Area.

The rodeo runs from June 28 - July 2.
