With Danielle Smith now the new Premier of Alberta that means there was a cabinet shuffle, and in that shuffle, MLA of Airdrie-Cochrane, Peter Guthrie was appointed Minister of Energy. Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown is very excited for Guthrie.

“I think it's terrific for Pete and I think it's very good for Cochrane, Rockyview, Airdrie and the community he represents.”

Brown mentioned it's always good to have an MLA in close contact with the Premier.

“At the end of the day, it's always good to have somebody within the cabinet that's close to the premier that can be involved in some of those decision-making processes or relates to funding or economic development or anything else.”

When it comes to the new Premier, the first thing Brown did was thank former Alberta Premier Jason Kenney for his hard work. Brown is very hopeful and optimistic that Smith is going to do a great job for not only Airdrie but the rest of the province. The city is very much looking forward to working with Premier Smith.

“The government is in a pretty good stead with natural resource revenue that I hope that they're going to be investing the extra funds back into municipalities like Airdrie.”

Brown finished by saying he really hopes that the premier and her leadership team will be really looking at investing those dollars back into our communities because that money is much needed in these tough times.

MLA Guthrie was the first MLA to endorse Premier Smith when the leadership campaign was in full swing.
