According to the Statistics Canada 2021 Census, Airdrie ranked 25th on the list of cities across Canada.

The rankings were based on cities with at least 5,000 inhabitants with the highest rate of population growth between 2016 and 2021.

In 2016, Airdrie's population was 61,581 and in 2021 that grew to 74,100 residents, with a 20.3 per cent growth from 2016 to 2021. Although Airdrie was last on that list, when it came to the population and growth rate solely in Alberta, between 2016 and 2021, Airdrie ranked second, only to be beat out by Cochrane, whose population growth was 24.5 per cent.

The number one city for growth with at least 5,000 inhabitants was East Gwillimbury in Ontario with a 44 per cent growth spike between 2016 and 2021.
