The Airdrie Health Foundation has partnered with The Calgary Hitmen to help raise money to enhance health care in Airdrie.

Michelle Bates, Executive Director of the Airdrie Health Foundation, explains what the foundation is all about.

“It began as a grassroots group advocating for better health care in Airdrie. Along the way, we became a registered charity under the Alberta Health Services. We raise funds for public health care. We support the Airdrie Community Health Center, which includes urgent care, mental health, palliative care, speech, audiology, home care, and anything in between.”

A member of the Calgary Sports Entertainment Corporation actually approached Bates for this upcoming fundraiser with The Calgary Hitmen.

“We had a lady contact us and ask for some more information on what we do and what our mission is and we are now working with them to raise funds,” says Bates.

On April 3, The Hitmen are playing the Swift Current Broncos, and The Airdrie Health Foundation will be selling some tickets for $15 each, with $5 from every ticket sold going back to the Airdrie Health Foundation.

Bates went on to say that they could have picked a different professional sports team in Calgary but picked the Hitmen because they thought it would lower ticket prices and be more oriented towards families.

“It'd be a great way for families to go out at a low cost while giving back to the community.”

All money raised from the event will go towards supporting the highest priority needs for Airdrie.

“We'll most likely be supporting Pregnancy and Beyond, Urgent Care, and Mental Health."

The Pregnancy and Beyond program, according to Bates, supports mothers in Airdrie in times of need.

“It is a program that supports local moms here in Airdrie that might have challenges within the home, whether they're a young mom and need help on how to raise a child, maybe there's financial issues, or substance abuse or any of those type of challenges where our Registered Nurse can help the mom through those challenges.”
