In their first games back after a long exam break, Airdrie girls teams struggled in Rocky View basketball. Neither the Bert Church Chargers nor the Croxford Cavaliers were able to capitalize on home court advantage.

Chestermere Lakers at Bert Church Chargers

In their own gym, the Bert Church Chargers were unable to find a solution to the Chestermere Lakers, dropping two straight games.

The senior Lakers steamrolled the Chargers, holding them to single digits for a 94-9 win.

Chargers head coach Andy Kirk said the game would be a learning moment for his team. The Chargers have struggled so far this season, and sit winless after four games. Kirk said since the beginning of the season, they haven't had a full roster.

"This makes it challenging to practice many aspects of the game and has a huge impact on the continuity of the team. Our team must become stronger on the offensive end of the floor.  So much of this is the confidence that relates directly to skill level."

Kirk took solace in the fact that Chestermere is a top-ranked team and has been outplaying most of its competition in Rocky View.

The junior Chargers fared a little better against the Lakers but ultimately fell 61-43.

Cochrane Cobras at Croxford Cavaliers

Across town, the Croxford Cavaliers also struggled at home against the Cochrane Cobras.

In the senior game, the Cobras ran up the score, beating the Cavs 97-34. Head coach Aaron Nisbett said it wasn't the outcome they wanted, but losing to a team as competitive as Cochrane is a good reminder of the need to play hard through all four quarters.

"When we step up and play our strong defence, we're able to shut teams down. We just need to make sure we do it consistently from the opening whistle all the way to the end."

Nisbett said Jasmine Ortega had a big defensive game for the team, covering Cochrane's best player and keeping her to a minimal impact.

The junior Cavs kept things close but were unable to come away with a win. Cochrane took that game 59-54.
