Two Airdrie friends are splitting their $250,000 CROSSWORD DELUXE EDITION prize that they recently won.

According to Robert Chapman, his friend, Theresa Paillard, wasn’t expecting to hear that she would be splitting a quarter million dollars when he called her, but she was happy to hear it.

“I texted Theresa a picture of the self-checker screen with the win on it,” Chapman said. “Then I called her right away to tell her the news. All she could say was, ‘Wow! Oh wow! I think we were both a little shocked!”

The Airdrie friends said they have started thinking about what to do with their $125,000 shares of the prize.

“First I’m going to pay some bills,” said Paillard. “And I would like to book a vacation sometime in the near future.”

Chapman said he has a similar idea.

“I’ll pay bills and put some of the money into savings,” he said. “I’m also going to buy a new mobility scooter.”

Chapman purchased the winning CROSSWORD DELUXE EDITION ticket from the East Lake Airdrie Petro Canada at 190 East Lake Crescent Northeast.

But, there may be another winner in the city. Last night’s LOTTO MAX jackpot of $17 million was won by a single ticket purchased somewhere in Alberta, outside of Edmonton and Calgary - which means the multi-millionaire may be in Airdrie.

According to the Western Canada Lottery Corporation, in the past year, Albertans have taken home over $242.6 million in jackpot and MAXMILLIONS prizes alone.

"That includes the $50 million jackpot win in Edmonton just last Tuesday, the $35 million win in Edmonton on July 25, and the $55 million prize won on April 25 in Lethbridge. "

Last night’s LOTTO MAX-winning numbers were: 6, 7, 9, 12, 13, 32 and 37.
