Last weekend (August 19-20) the Airdrie Thunder held their annual 3 on 3 tournament at the Ron Ebbesen arena.

Team President Gord Ziegler explains that the tournament is a fun way for players to get back on the ice.

"It's not a tryout tournament, it's a 3 on 3. It's really for us to engage with the community and the Bantam and the Midget players"

Ziegler says it wasn't just Airdrie Thunder players participating but other local hockey stars.

"We had Bantam kids, Midget kids. It's fast paced, it's 3 on 3, it's a lot of fun... nice to see a wide range of kids out there having a good time."

At the end of it all, the tournament was meant to engage the community and those who've shown great support to the team.

"We're always excited to see how much support we get for the 3 on 3," says Ziegler. "The City's amazing, the rink's amazing, the rink staff helps us out. Overall it was a very, very big success"

The Thunder are now preparing for their main camp which starts on September 1st and wraps up with the annual Red and White game on September 4th.
