Late on Monday afternoon, Rocky View officials stated in an update that a massive grass fire that occurred Northwest of Airdrie was under control and that the emergency response had concluded.

Officials stated that roads were estimated to re-open at 6 p.m.

Earlier, Mounties warned motorists that Symons Valley Road was closed north of Township Road 280 and South of Township Road 282 due to the fire.

Fire crews from seven Rocky View County Stations, with additional support from the Town of Crossfield, Mountain View County, the City of Airdrie, and the Municipal District of Big Horn also responded to the fire.

In response to dry conditions that contributed to the fire's rapid spread, a Fire Advisory has been declared in Rocky View County.

special air quality statement has also been announced by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and is in place for Airdrie, Cochrane, Olds, as well as Sundre due to the grass fire.
