The Airdrie Aces Athletics Club sent four athletes to Kelowna for the Jack Brow Memorial meet over the weekend (July 1-2), and the athletes shone on the track and in the field.

While only one of them medalled, Aiden Good, Jasmine Szucs, Lillie Szucs and Liam Good all achieved personal bests.

Aiden Good shaved time off his personal best in his first event of the weekend, the 800 meter sprint.

"His 800 meter was spectacular," said coach Jodie Matsuba-Szucs, "He was able to take another 1.5 seconds off of his personal best."

Although he fell short of the podium in that event, he was able to pull off a silver medal in his preferred event, the 1200 meter run. Good fell just short of his personal best, coming out of the gates a little too fast and ending in second place with a 3:24.00 race. However, Matsuba-Szucs says she sees signs of good things in future competitions, and with some adjustments Good should be able to run a sub 3:20.00 race

Jasmine Szucs saw a personal best over the weekend in one event in which she has had new coaching.

"For her to pull out a 44.83 second 300 meter sprint was a huge personal best, a huge improvement in a short period of time training with coach Darren Clarke," said Matsuba-Szucs.

Szucs also placed fourth in the Midget Women's long jump, finishing with an outdoor personal best of 4.84

Liam Good finished the weekend with two personal bests in the 200 meter sprint and the high jump. Matsuba-Szucs says this will be his final weekend of competition.

"Liam's shutting it down after this weekend. He's suffering some heel pain, so he's just going to mess around and do some fun throws for now. He had personal bests in his 200 by three seconds."

Lillie Szucs also saw two personal bests at the meet, throwing 17.00m in the bantam girls discus and running the 80 meter hurdles in 17.27 seconds.

Aiden Good and Jasmine Szucs will now begin preparing for the Western Canadian Championships, along with teammates Sarah Zinck, Jinaye Shomachuk and Liam Hamm. That competition takes place July 14-16 in Winnipeg.
