Airdrie's Aaron Dell is returning home after his time with the San Jose Sharks was cut short by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Dell was called up to be a third string goaltender, following the San Jose Barracuda elimination from the AJHL playoffs.

“It was awesome, it was a great experience for me,” said Dell. “I got to live the life a little bit how they do on the road, and just experience what it’s like to be at that level.”

Unfortunately for him, the Sharks were met with a similar fate, as the Penguins took the Stanley Cup final series in 5 games.

Dell said 'depressing' is the best word to describe the locker room following the loss.

“It’s always tough when you go that long and put that much into it and then it ends that close.”

Come July 1st, Dell will become an unrestricted free agent, and he hopes to return to San Jose.

Dell is returning to Airdrie for the off season where he will train for next season.

“I think I gotta keep playing the way I was playing, and have probably my best summer of my career, and get in shape all the way around, on ice and off ice.”
