Neuron Mobility has announced that its scooters will be returning to Airdrie’s streets today, with their safety-first e-scooters.

"Riders can expect to find e-scooters across the City this week for use," a release from the company stated.

Since they arrived in Airdrie in June 2022, Neuron’s e-scooters have become very popular with riders who have collectively travelled over 134,000 kilometres. An impressive 52 per cent of all trips have replaced a car journey and this has saved an estimated 11 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Ankush Karwal, General Manager, Neuron Mobility Canada expressed his excitement at the announcement.

"Last season, our riders told us that over six in 10 of all trips resulted in a purchase, and with the average spend of $23 per trip, injecting hundreds of thousands of dollars into the local economy."

However, Neuron underlined that safety is a top priority for the company, stating that  its e-scooters are fitted with the world’s first integrated helmets, which are highly recommended when riding an e-scooter in Airdrie

"We’d like to remind all riders to wear a helmet; they are the single most important way for riders to protect themselves."

Other important safety tips include remembering that in Airdrie, riders must be 16 years old and above, and if under 18, have the consent of a parent or legal guardian

"Riding is allowed on sidewalks, pathways and roads with a speed limit of 30km/h or lower. One rider per e-scooter, and no tandem riding with children," Neuron added.

Those wanting to use e-scooters are also advised to keep a safe distance from and give way to pedestrians and mobility devices such as wheelchairs at all times.

"Do not ride under the influence of alcohol or other substances and be aware and remove earphones. Park responsibly and don't cause an obstruction. Riders are encouraged to use designated parking areas which can be found in the app."

Riders can use the e-scooters through Neuron’s mobile app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play and set up in a matter of minutes.

Single trips cost $1.15 to unlock the e-scooter and $0.39 per minute thereafter. More frequent users also have the option to purchase a range of passes, including a Plus Pass, which is $4.99 per month, which waives the unlock fee and provides a 20 per cent discount on all rides.

Neuron operates in 17 locations in Canada including Ottawa, Calgary, Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge in the Region of Waterloo, Brampton, Oshawa, Regina, Saskatoon, Vernon, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Airdrie, Sylvan Lake, Lacombe, Blackfalds and Coquitlam.
