The 2016 Alberta Summer Games start Thursday, July 14th.

Leduc plays host to this year's competition, with approximately 2,500 participants.

50 athletes from Airdrie will participate in baseball, basketball, BMX, football, lacrosse, mountain biking and soccer.

All athletes qualified in a zone playoff/selection and met their sport’s eligibility requirements. The zone playoffs/selections were organized by the Provincial Sport Association for each sport.

With participants ranging in age from 11 to 17 years old, the games will showcase some of the provinces best young athletes.

There are 14 different sports in total: athletics, baseball, basketball, canoe-kayak, cycling-bmx, cycling-mountain bike, football, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, softball, swimming, triathlon and beach volleyball.

Quarterback Keegan Proudlock, running back Josh Seaman, fullback Cody Sox and defensive lineman Zachary Lemieux made the Big Country Badgers Zone 2 football team, and will aim to bring home some hardware.

Airdrie hosted the 2014 Summer Games, but residents will have to wait and see what local athletes can do on the road.
