Earlier this week 100 Women Who Care held their quarterly event to donate to an organization making a difference in Airdrie.

During the meeting, Airdrie Meals on Wheels was selected to receive the donation. Airdrie Parades and Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra were the other two organizations that made their case for the funds.

While the final number is still being calculated, Melissa Thome, one of the leaders and coordinators of 100 Women Who Care believes Airdrie Meals on Wheels will receive around $7000 once all the funds are collected.

The organization's goal is to support the wonderful non-profit and charitable organizations that are in the Airdrie and surrounding area. Every quarter, they try to get 100 women to donate 100 dollars. 100 Women Who Care started in 2016.

Thome explained at the event, all the women that attended decided who should receive the funds after each organization explained what they do and what they would use the funds for.

"Airdrie Meals on Wheels plans to use the funds to help offset the rising cost of food. The organization offers low-cost meals to people that might be unable to provide healthy meals for themselves anymore."

According to Thome, it feels amazing to be able to help organizations provide the services they offer as they are trying to make Airdrie a better place.

"It feels good to be able to have an impact on people in our community."

The first recipient of the year was Adopt-A-Grad Foundation where they received $8300. The next two meetings are taking place in September and December.
