A 10-year tradition keeps getting bigger and bigger for one Airdronian.

Angela Jenykns the founder of the Mustard Seed Jacket Drive couldn't believe how many people were willing to help and donate clothes to those in need.

Jenykns talked about how the idea for a jacket drive came about.

"10 years ago, my niece wanted to do something during the Christmas season. I did quite a bit of research and I loved what the Mustard Seed stood for and their mission, and I wanted to do something to help them out."

The Mustard Seed is a Christian non-profit organization that has been caring for individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty since 1984. The Mustard Seed is a supportive haven where people can have their physical, mental, and spiritual needs met and grow toward greater health and independence.

"All of Airdrie helped me this year, I even expanded into Carstairs to collect donations."

While expanding to Carstairs, Jenykns received a lot of help from locals including Jammie Shaw who would collect donations for her, IODE Thrift Shop donated a huge number of items and Lee-Anne Leatherwood who is the owner of Carstairs Lil’ Dreamers Creative Learning Centre and let her use a classroom as storage for the donations.

Unsure of how many pieces of clothing were donated, Jenykns does know that she set a personnel record for sure.

"I couldn't deliver it personally because I had so many donations. Even the front seat of the vehicle was full."

Jenykns explained the feeling she gets when she does this fundraiser year in and year out, it truly is something special.

"It's just incredible that more and more people are willing to help. Spreading kindness is what this world needs."

According to Jenykns, she will be back next year doing the fundraiser once again for her 11th year.
