Two Airdrie youths were hit by a vehicle this past weekend in Airdrie. The youths were later treated for minor injuries.

On January 6, at approximately 6:00 p.m., two youths were crossing at the intersection of Canals Boulevard and Sagewood Drive when a red Ford Escape hit the youths knocking them over. The driver and youths remained on the scene.

Airdrie RCMP has charged a 20-year-old Airdrie resident with failing to proceed safely after stopping at an intersection.

James McConnell, a corporal in community policing wanted to remind residents about crosswalk safety at this time of year.

"Especially with the changing weather conditions, we know those intersections are a little bit more slippery than what they normally are. We encourage drivers to approach those intersections with care."

McConnell stated they do see several collisions each year at uncontrolled crosswalks and people not paying attention.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
