After playing two games on Friday and Saturday, the Airdrie Techmation Thunder traded in their hockey sticks for rakes on Sunday.

This is the second year in a row that the athletes on the Thunder have gone and helped Arnie and Bev Wilson get their acreage ready for the winter season.

Shaun Guest, General Manager of the Thunder explained why the Thunder will be doing this for years to come.

"I just think it's really important that the team is giving back to the community, it's good to teach good core values to the guys."

Guest mentioned for the past few years, whatever hockey team he was associated with has gone out and raked the leaves.

"Arnie's unable to go out and do that kind of stuff, so it is just Bev who sometimes has to do tasks like this on her own."

Guest mentioned all the boys knew the significance of this job, so everybody was ready to go.

"This year it took us about three hours, but the key was having a lot more people with leaf blowers this year."

Once all the work was done, the team enjoyed a team barbeque.

On Friday (September 30) the Thunder hosted the Medicine Hat Cubs who came away with a 4 - 2 win. Saturday (September 31) The Thunder travelled to Cochrane to take on the Generals but lost 5-1.

The Airdrie squad will be after their first win of the season again on Friday, October 6 when they host the Sylvan Lake Wranglers at the Ron Ebbesen Arena in Airdrie. Game time is 8:00 p.m.
