Parks Canada has issued a rare "Wolf Warning" following an incident on Tuesday, May 31st at Tunnel Mountain Campground.

A group of campers were approached by a pair of wolves, forcing them to flee to the safety of their vehicles while the wolves helped themselves to their cooler.

"These wolves have not been aggressive towards people yet, but they have been assertively approaching people." said Bill Hunt, Resource Conservation Manager, Parks Canada.

The wolf warning applies to the Lower Bow Valley area, which extends all the way from the Banff townsite area all the way to Castle Junction on the Trans Canada Highway.

Hunt encourages people to gather in groups, keep children close, and dogs on leash when out in the park.

"Certainly dont approach any wildlife in the national park, but if you have an encounter with a wolf we are advising people to make noise appear big, and try to haze or scare the wolf away."

If you see a wolf, you're encouraged to contact Parks Canada's 24/7 hour Banff dispatch at 403-762-1470.
