Airdrie is expecting lots of sun over the next week.

Over the next few days, the City of Airdrie is expecting temperatures in the thirties and mid-twenties.

Dan Kulak, Meteorologist with Environment Canada says the heat is due to a high-pressure ridge.

"There is an upper ridge forming around Alberta what that means is that basically, ridges tend to bring warm air to particular areas. You will still get some storms coming off the foothills but in general this more or less a dry and warm pattern."

There is a heat warning put in place for parts of the province.

"We do have heat warnings in place for areas east of Airdrie such as Drumheller, Brooks and Medicine Hat."

Airdrie will not be under the heat warning.

"The criteria for a heat warning is two days of temperatures of at least 29 degrees and the night low between the two being a low of fourteen."

Airdrie is expecting UV indexes of 9 or high over the next few days.

"The UV values are not actually tied with temperature but watch your exposure outdoors because in the heat you tend to spend more time outside"

There may be thunderstorms north of Airdrie over the next few days.

"Any time there is warm air coming north from the United States and across the mountains, there may be situations where isolated storms develop over the foothills."
