The results from the friendly competition between Team Blue and Team Red are finally in!

The battle between Team Red (Airdrie Fire Department and Alberta Health Services EMS) and Team Blue (Airdrie RCMP and Municipal Enforcement) Is over with one clear winner crowned.

For the past three months, both teams have been "Battling for Airdrie" by competing in different challenges to raise funds and supplies for three local causes in Airdrie.

The first challenge was a close race between the two teams as both teams collected toys and raised money to support the Airdrie Lioness Club's Christmas Hamper Program.

Team Red won the first competition in November by collecting 840 toys valued at $10,929 with Team Blue falling short collecting 689 toys valued at $10,338. Team Red was also able to win the charity hockey game at the Ron Ebbeson Arena.

Cpl. Gina Slaney with Team Blue says she was surprised with the competitiveness of the game.

"I think we were all surprised with the sheer competitiveness when it came to the charity hockey game. The biggest thing that was surprising was what we thought was a little idea was so huge for the community. The community support we got for the first project was amazing, over $21,000 dollars worth of toys for the Christmas hampers. We were absolutely stunned."

Team Blue was able to secure the second win in December by a landslide. Both teams collected food donations to support the Airdrie Food Bank. Team Blue collected over 7,493 pounds of food while Team Red collected 3,177 pounds.

"Considering we might be doing this again next year, I can't share our strategy when it comes to the food drive. We had some connections and some people pulled through for us. It was a lot of work because we knew that if we lost we would certainly be doing the lip syncing."

When both teams were all tied up the remaining challenge in January would be the deciding factor. Both teams did their best to donate blood to support Canadian Blood Services by filling both Airdrie Donor Clinics and encouraging residents of Airdrie to donate anywhere in southern Alberta to support their team.

Team Red was able to walk away with a dominant win in the final round by having 110 donations and 15 new donors.

"I think Team Red was a little sneaky when it comes to that challenge in my opinion. Although it was a brilliant idea, they were at the Town and Country Centre where the blood drive was and was soliciting the citizens that were coming in to choose their organization. The idea was brilliant, its a competition and they came out on top."

The best part of the challenge is yet to come as Team Red will select a song for Team Blue to lip sync to and film a music video.

"I think this has been amazing for both teams, we are all first responders and the partnerships and friendships we have developed through this competition has been amazing and can only benefit the city. The support we have and the way the citizens of Airdrie pulled through for us has been amazing and we can't wait to do it again."
