After an incident of smoke in the building, Little Sprouts Preschool decided to take the young students on a week of off-site field trips.

Despite the building being operational, owner and director of Little Sprouts Tracy Young says they decided to close for the week anyway.

"We've been given the go-ahead to open up, but this week we decided to have off-site field trips for our students just to give our property owner some time to clean anything that needed cleaning and get people in to asses things that needed to happen."

The students will have a chance to see a great many different things than they would in their normal classroom.

"(Monday and Tuesday) we headed off to Superstore, where they gave us a tour of the bakery, the seafood department and the deli. We also got to check out their dairy and ice cream coolers. The children got to water the produce, which they thought was pretty fantastic. Wednesday, we are heading to the public library and we're going to participate in some programming there as well as run some of our own. Thursday and Friday we are going to the Nose Creek Valley Museum."

The change of location has not bothered the children at all, says Young

"(The children) have actually really enjoyed our field trips so far. They're kind of excited that we are doing something new and different this week. So, I'm happy that they're happy."

However, Young describes the rush to plan last-minute field trips as difficult.

"We decided Friday at 4:30 that we weren't going to open (next week) and we were going to plan off-site things and, let me tell you, not a whole lot is open on Friday at 4:30"

Fortunately for Young, and unfortunately for the students, Little Sprouts will begin their normal classes again on Monday.
