British Columbia has now become the second province in Canada to ban the declawing process of cats.

Edna Jackson owner of Tales to Tell in Crossfield believes Alberta should follow suit.

"We need to ban declawing in Alberta, it's the cruellest thing you could possibly do to an animal."

When cats get older and develop arthritis, the previous declawing of the cat can contribute to pain and loss of balance.

Jackson worries though that if Alberta does ban declawing that some owners will take it into their own hands and declaw them using unsafe measures.

"the scary thing of banning declawing in Alberta is that owners are going to go find a backyard butcher to do it anyway."

As of right now, the declawing of cats in Alberta is legal, however many organizations such as tales to tell strongly disagree with the process.
