Rocky View Schools' Superintendent Greg Luterbach has announced the appointment of John Murphy, the current Principal of Nose Creek Elementary School in Airdrie as the new Area Director of Schools starting in August.  

Murphy's tenure with Rocky View dates back to 2002 when he became the Principal at Crossfield Elementary School.  He remained there for four years then opened the new Nose Creek Elementary where he's served as Principal ever since.

A release from RVS says that Murphy has a proven track record in leading and transforming educational communities that are experiencing rapid growth which should fit in well in the rapidly growing division.  He's successfully opened three new schools in the span of his career and has a reputation for building systems and high morale with staff, fostering strong relationships with families and supporting students in attaining positive academic results.  

In addition to his practical experience, Murphy brings a wealth of research-based knowledge into his new role.  He holds a Masters of Education with a specialization in Leadership from the University of Calgary as well as a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University in Newfoundland.  

In making the announcement of Murphy's appointment, Superintendent Luterbach said, "John brings 31 years of educational experience to this role, including 24 years as a school administrator at all grade levels."  He calls Murphy a "multi-dimensional leader who excels at building positive school culture that stimulates academic excellence."
