The government is proposing to increase minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2018, which has many in the restaurant industry concerned.

Restaurants Canada has started a movement called "Not The Time", which urges the Alberta Government to slow plans to raise the minimum wage, in an effort to give the downturned economy a chance to recover.

"Everyone loves a lemonade stand, but in the middle of winter? The timing is all wrong. Raising the minimum wage in Alberta's current economic climate doesn't make sense either." said Restaurants Canada.

Many feel that the increase will eliminate jobs, and potentially take first jobs from young people looking to gain workplace experience.

However, not everyone believes that the increase is all that bad.

"Obviously it's not a good thing as a business owner, but you adjust," said George Tsembelis, owner of Alexanders. "If you don't adjust, these things will eat you up."

The increase is expected to raise costs at restaurants, and take hours away from employees.
